Spring!

I love winter. I love it when it snow. I prefer the lower temperature. And... there are so many celebrations during winter:

  • Christmas (rather family-oriented),
  • New Year party (rather party-oriented),
  • Carnival (lost of parties)
  • ending with the Fat Thursday (a day of eating Polish doughnuts and other sweets).

Winter ends with drowning Marzanna in river or lakes on the first day of Spring. An old pre-Christian tradition resurrected some times ago.

Officially (astronomical) the first day of spring was on 20th March 2015. But actually I feel like winter ended in February. The weather was quite warm and without snow from around that time.

I'm not fond of spring. The only nation-wide celebration is Easter. Kinda boring.

By the end of March there was Hurricane Nicklas ravaging in Europe. We had strong winds in Poland too, but from what I know, unlike in other countries, we had no people casualties.

We have a saying in Poland about April: kwiecień plecień, co przeplata trochę zimy trochę lata. The proverbial translation would be "ne’er cast a clout till May be out". The Polish proverb says that April mixes both winter and summer (the same as March ;)).

During Easter I went for a walk in Bug Landscape Park (around 1h ride from Warsaw). During 5-hours walk I had both cloudy, sunny, rainy and haily weather (it was still quite warm). But still, the views were great. :) Like in this photo. If you want to see more photos from my Easter Walk, click the link.

Since this week it should be getting gradually warmer in Poland. It still can rain. The forecast tell about temperature over 20 degrees C. If you will be coming to Poland soon, it would be wiser to bring some rainy/warmer clothes with you.

See you soon.
